Lebanon Appoints 3 Female Ambassadors

Lebanon has appointed its first ever female ambassador to the UN, alongside female ambassadors to Jordan and UNESCO. The move comes just a few weeks after Lebanons Government failed to pass a women's quota law

Who are the ambassadors? 

Dr. Amal Mudallali, appointed as Lebanon's UN ambassador; is the first Lebanese female to ever hold the position. She graduated from the American University of Beirut with a degree in Political Sciences and then continued her education in the US University of Maryland, achieving a degree in Political Communication.

Tracy Chamoun is the new ambassador to Jordan, she is a Lebanese-Australian author and political activist. She is the first Lebanese woman to establish and head a political party - "The Liberal Democratic Movement." She is also the Head of the Dani Chamoun Foundation and ran for the country's elections in 2013. 

Sahar Baassiri is a Lebanese author and journalist appointed as Lebanon's ambassador to UNESCO.  She achieved a BA in Political Science from the American University of Beirut and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She worked for Annahar newspaper between 1981 and 2009 and was also United Press International's Beirut correspondent between 1989 and 1991. Three years ago she was elected as President of the International Women Forum at the UN.
