Lebanon Bans Wonder Woman Film Over Casting of Israeli Actress

Lebanon has officially banned screenings of the 2017 film Wonder Woman hours before its debut due to the casting of Israeli Actress Gal Gadot as the starring role. Gadot formerly served in the Israeli Army and has been vocal in her support for the IDF and her criticism Hamas, posting a photograph of herself praying with her daughter on her Facebook page in 2014 alongside the caption:

“I am sending my love and prayers to my fellow Israeli citizens,” “Especially to all the boys and girls who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas, who are hiding like cowards behind women and children...We shall overcome!!! Shabbat Shalom! #weareright #freegazafromhamas #stopterror #coexistance #loveidf”

Lebanon is officially at war with Israel and implements a boycott of Israeli business which prevents Lebanese citizens from using Israeli products or travelling to Israel. However the move to ban Wonder Woman from being screened is unprecedented, as Gadot’s previous films such as Fast and the Furious and Batman vs Superman have been shown, despite protests from campaigners.
