Since its launch on June 20th, 2010, 96 NISAA FM has set its primary focus on entertaining, informing, and inspiring Palestinian women, but many men listen as well, meaning that we are partners in building our nation together. As one of Smiling Children Foundation’s projects, we believe that women, education and empowerment are primary tools in economic development.
With our two live shows “Qahwa Mazbout - Morning” and “Tarweeha - Afternoon” we have added a new dimension to the radio environment in Palestine, by introducing specialization and innovative approaches to radio. We focus on major aspects of life in Palestine, with programming that view women as positive contributors in the development of society and building the country’s economy. Through the internet and social media which has given radio globally a new dimension, we reach women in the Diaspora in general and Arab women in the Middle East specifically. Our monthly hits have increased to more than 800 and our Facebook fans have grown to over 500.

We look forward to expanding our coverage to include the north and south of the country. We have started a technical upgrade as well as a test broadcast and will be officially on air in the northern West Bank on 96.2 FM by the end of 2010. We hope that we will be able in 2011, to expand our coverage to include the southern parts of Palestine including the Gaza Strip.

We also foresee in 2011 a third programme. The ‘Noon Show’ which will offer listeners a platform for interactivity and debates on contentious social issues. ‘Ask the Expert’ will be a segment where guests shall be able to present to listeners their advice on several topics. Listeners’ feedback and opinions will be collected and will be broadcast to present both a male and female perspective. On this issue, we have approached several funders in order for us to train a number of women journalists in the rural areas thus making them media producers rather than media consumers.

At 96 NISAA FM we believe that Palestinian women have come a long way when compared to women in the Region. Our literacy rate is very low and our involvement in society and its development is significant. Our airwaves continuously provide a platform for Palestinian women to talk about their experiences and we remain the Voice of Women in Palestine.
