21-year-old former ISIS sex slave testifies before U.N
23 December 2015

Nadia Murad Basee Taha, 21, is from northern Iraq. Like many Yazidi women in the region, she was kidnapped, beaten, and raped by members of the Islamic State, who sold and bought her as a human sex slave over a three-month period. Last week, Taha spoke in front of the United Nations 15-member council meeting on human trafficking and told the representatives that “rape was used to destroy women and girls and to guarantee that these women could never lead a normal life again.”

“Islamic State has made Yazidi women into flesh to be trafficked in,” she said, adding that the group uses women as “war booty.” Taha called on the United Nations to bring an end to the Islamic State group.

Below is a panel discussion at the Women in the World London Summit, on the plight of the Yazidi women.
